Short Attention Span

posted on

What can I say… I get bored sometimes working on the same project and I jump to other things, even though I know I shouldn’t. I sometimes think I have the attention span of a 3 year old. After finishing the hallway panels, it’s time for me to move into the master bedroom (which I’m dragging my feet on. HUGE PROJECT!). Last Friday evening Richie was messing around in the “studio” area of the house (which I rarely talk about because we haven’t done anything to it). There’s paneling throughout the 600+ square feet of the studio which needs to ….

A Good Distraction

posted on
It was a busy weekend for us as we move from one project to the next… but more on that later. For this post I want to share something that definitely distracted us from our “oh so important” work. One of my very first posts on this blog was about a bird nest we found in a tree and some really sweet pictures of the babies before they left the nest. Well, I had no idea that birds used the same nest again.. but these little Robins must have worked on their house as hard as we’ve been working on ….

Let it Rain

posted on
If you’re like me the sound of rain the last few days seems so strange… almost like a dream. Because of the record-breaking drought, it’s been a struggle to keep our yard and all the pretty flowers from burning up so we’ve been watering like crazy. (like most people) Thank goodness we got a break the last three days with steady little down pours. Ahhhhhh, green, not brown begins to emerge around town and I for one am totally grateful.

Yesterday as I got home the sun was shining over my house but it was raining the most beautiful raindrops. I ….

A LOOK BACK
As we work on our wonderful home, I often think of the architect and his wife and the life they must have enjoyed here. I know from many of their friends that their home was so important to them… and they loved it.

We love it too, and were so pleased that when we bought the house we not only received all the architectural drawings but also a notebook of pictures that were taken when they lived in the house. The pictures were obviously printed off of someone’s home computer printer, so the ….

Time Flies

posted on

this week, we moved into our modern home.

It’s been a really great and very exhausting 2 years.  We have learned so much about who we are and what we want in life.  Our team work and support of each other has gotten us so far with this renovation and has strengthened our love and appreciation for each other. Richie has been so patient with me, as I’m a perfectionist and many of the jobs I do take me WAY longer than they should.  It’s maddening, I’m sure.  But in the end, when the tears have been wiped ….

Exterior Work – Carport

posted on
The exterior work continues and the heat has been pretty brutal. Luckily Richie is working under the carport this week.

We have a nice drive through car port at the front of the house and have done plenty of work to this area.  (It’s hard to tell… but we really have.  It just happens in small steps)

We’re back to pick up where we left off and get the roof beams all capped and lookin’ good.  There are five beams total.  Richie went to work measuring, cutting, and securing caps to seal up the bottoms and ends of each beam.  He’s done ….

Delicious!

I couldn’t resist taking a picture of these beautiful tomatoes from our garden. Trust me… there’s no tomato like this in the grocery store! It just doesn’t get any better. I cut one for my lunch today and each bite was like heaven. They’re so darn DELICIOUS! And pretty too. We love to share. Let me know if you want a few! Have a good day…. and a tomato too.

Back to Work

posted on

Home renovation sure isn’t for sissies! It’s back to work for the “crew of two”. My work is pretty low-key because my left arm is still out of wack. The x-rays were inconclusive and had to be sent off to a radiologist. It’s either a dislocation or I have “funky bones”. If it’s funky bones, then it’s a damaged tendon. Either way it’s light work for me… and messy hard work for Richie.

Richie started working on the support beams at the back of the house. Each beam had to be taken apart, repaired and a new cap was put on ….

New Finds

It’s June and the heat has kicked in … just in time for Richie to get back to work on the house. (poor thing!) Every year it takes a few days to adjust to a new way of living and working. Going from educator to carpenter, welder, electrician, plumber, and all around handy guy in the 100 degree weather takes some adjusting. We’ll start out easy and work into it. So until he/we really get going on some renovation projects lets talk about some good “stuff” we found this past weekend.
Check out this really cool Andy Warhol bag that ….

cement is a ball

posted on
Yes, we enjoy our yard… and we love to put all kinds of things out in our landscape (besides plants). We’ve seen these concrete garden balls in different places throughout the years and always intended to make some. Finally with a little more spare time than usual… we got the concrete and went for it. After collecting some old glass shades that were picked up at garage sales or given to us (thanks, John F.) they got a nice thin coat of cooking oil rubbed on the insides.  We mixed the concrete and began scooping it in the 3 glass ….

Color, texture, and pattern

Another Friday. Hard to believe. The weeks come and go so quickly, but my search for inspiration is constant. I realize the things we see everyday inspire us in some way, and the internet has definitely helped most of us who are obsessed with beautiful things and search them out. For the past few months I have been lusting over all the products from Marimekko, as they create the most wonderful modern designs.  I’m so drawn to them. Their fabrics are so simple and beautiful.  Nothing changes a space like fabric, texture and color.  The graphics definitely inspired ….

FILL EMPTY POTS …. Another thing off my list!
My little black bird pot finally got a bromeliad, but I can’t just seem to cross something off my list and move on… oh no, I have to draw it out, LITERALLY.

I have three pots that Richie found at various estate sales that he paid nothing for and although I love how old and beat up they look I thought I’d have some fun with one. I’ve been tripping over this pot (literally) and needed to fill it with something. I finally found one of my all time ….

SUNBURST MIRROR –
I vote for a 4 day work week EVERY week. How ’bout you? Richie and I had such a productive three days. I feel like we had forgotten how to relax and do things we use to do. We’ve been in such a “panic-gotta-get-this-house-done mode, that we really haven’t been all that creative. We need that. It keeps us happy. So, with that being said, I decided to do a project that has been in my head (and the supplies in a bag) for about 3 weeks now …. a Sunburst Mirror. I’ve seen them in stores ….

Guest Room Door FIX

It’s been a busy three days but I’m checking things off my weekend “to do” list.

 Finish Guest Bedroom Door

That darn door just wouldn’t go back up after I finished painting it. There were gaps around the door and it wouldn’t shut all the way, as it was TOO tight at the hinged side. Again, old house, old door, new plan.

We carefully removed the door stops on the outside of the door.
The picture shows the door closed and the stop off.  See how far away the edge of the stop was from the door.  Huge GAP! (the ….

Hope you’re lucky enough to be off on this Memorial Day. We’re enjoying the extra time and have accomplished so much this weekend. Lots of projects are done and there will be more on that later….
This post is about our sweet “kittie” that decided to stay with us after hurricane Rita. She was wondering the streets after the storm and I was the only one she’d come to. I just adore her and spoil her rotten.
There are several blogs that I enjoy and look at daily, but one in particular “Inspires” me every day. It’s a blog called “Desire to ….
