A Little Help from Mother Nature

posted on

Yesterday I celebrated my birthday. Well… actually there wasn’t much celebrating because I took 3 naps during the day. I’m not sure if it’s because I crashed after a tough six weeks at “work” or if it’s because I turned 45 and that’s just what “old” people do… they nap. It may be a little of both… and for the record if naps are what come with getting older then I totally approve!

The past 6 weeks have been intense for me and I’m starting to come through it. The fundraiser is over and my schedule is finally going to get ….

Office Details – After Midnight

posted on

The work continues in our little office and I’m starting to see the finish line.   Although there are still many OFFICE posts to come and lots left to do… here’s some record keeping.

Over the weekend I decided to focus in on some little things that required some creativity.  Most of it I come up with around midnight when I’m trying to settle my brain down and get to sleep.  It rarely works because that’s usually the time I go crazy with thoughts regarding my next insane TIME SUCKING project.

So after many late night ideas this week I woke up ….

A new Townie

posted on

I own an exercise bike… well, it’s called a Spinner. Some of you may know what that is or have seen them in health clubs. They’re super fun and they kick your butt in the work out department. Which Lord knows I need! (you know… some butt kicking) When times are stressful there’s nothing like 45 minutes of good heart-pumping exercise. It definitely helps me physically and mentally. I love my spinner… but sometimes you just need to get outside and be a human being. To take in the scenery, breathe the air, hear the sounds, run from strange dogs ….

2 things that rocked my week!

posted on

I have to say that it’s been a pretty fun week for me and for reasons that may make some roll their eyes and say “what’s the big deal”?  But we all have our “things”. You know, the things that make us smile like little kids at Christmas and excited for what lies ahead.  The things that bring us joy and make us tick.  They’re big and small… but they definitely ROCK!

Definition:
ROCKS: verb – intransitive
to be great, exciting, or fun.
– You got Stones tickets? That rocks!
– This chocolate cake rocks!
Also Means: good, okay, cool, awesome, fun.
– This band rocks.

I think ….

I believe our mid-century modern home is not only fun but also a little bit fun-ky. Which is one of the reasons we fought so hard to get this place. The Goode’s (previous owners and architect) were definitely a creative and very talented pair and they did some things to this house that made it really special. Some of the wonderful things about this house, for me, are the awesome door bell, the cool mail box, and the autograph doors as you enter the house.

Our mailbox is pretty fun, as it’s built into the fence that surrounds our house and ….

Secret Doors: letting the outside in

posted on

I think we can all agree that getting some fresh air is good for the soul… and mind, and body for that matter. I also know that many mid-century modern architects loved to design homes in a way that allowed nature and the outdoors to become part of your indoor living space. Many felt it was important to blend the two. Frank Lloyd Wright referred to it as open-plan living, to bring the outside in. Architect Richard Neutra was another who said, “Place man in relationship to nature; that’s where he developed and where he feels most at home!”

Their intent ….

Saving Daylight

posted on

Does it really save light? Do I have more time? Not really… but who cares, my brain thinks there’s more, so my body keeps going, and I seem to accomplish more, therefore I’m happier and more productive.. and apparently more talkative and able to write more run-on sentences.

Yes, you guessed it, the time change is a game changer for me. It’s a mental thing and I couldn’t be happier about it.  Welcome daylight savings time….I’ve been waiting patiently for you!

And so has kittie. She’s tired of being inside.  That face says it all.  She looks so pissed.

The flowers and ….

Ding dong goes the cowbell

posted on

Hello, hello, is anybody home? I’m sure that’s how most people feel when the come to our house. It’s like Fort Knox thanks to all the fences and courtyards that surround our house of glass. Sometimes I love it and sometimes it worries me that people might need to “get to us” but can’t. When the gates are open it’s still a mystery to some because this house is so unique and special they can’t figure out that this….. is the door bell.

It’s a small piece of wood (carved by my husband) and attached to a string that runs through ….
