The Seven Best Home Renovation Blogs

posted on

I’ve been keeping this a secret for a couple weeks but I’m super thrilled to share it with you because… well… it’s just so nice when someone contacts you and enjoys what you’re doing and finds your blog and the content something worth sharing.  I’m so pleased!

It started with an email form MSN’s glow.com.  Let me just say that I get a lot of emails through my contact page that quickly get deleted.  This particular email seemed “real” and the person writing it seemed legit and very lovely (you know… you just get that feeling) and for some reason I ….

wrapping up

posted on

Yesterday we wrapped up a couple of loose ends in the kitchen and worked to finish those last, little, annoying, “I don’t feel like doing that” projects. Richie worked on putting the false fronts over the tops of each wall cabinet and I painted the brick wall that wraps around the refrigerator and into the hallway. It just didn’t make sense to not continue with the white. I all looks nice and now we can finally move back to the bedroom and pick up where we left off. Richie built us a new king size platform bed and I’m anxious ….

I’m so thankful

posted on

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am happy and THANKFUL to say that I met my Thanksgiving deadline to finish the kitchen. Aside from a few decorating projects I’m basically done with the “work”. Richie, however, is NOT! The final part of the project is all his… and now I will patiently wait for him. He will box in the top portions of the cabinets on the right and left sides of the sink and I’ll paint and make them pretty. Hopefully we can get that done in the next week or so. Until then I’m enjoying the fruits ….

We “handled” it well…

posted on

This weekend was all about the kitchen cabinet handles. Long, oversized European Bar Handles that totally scared the crap out of me. Will we drill a hole in the wrong place? Will they be even? Will they be level? Will they line up with each other? Will we kill each other installing them? So many questions…. but all said and done…. We “handled” it well!!!!

I know these pictures are getting B-O-R-I-N-G week after week… but little changes keep happening each weekend and I can’t resist taking more pictures. (I took these ….

Things are heating up!

posted on

Yes, there is a little more heat in the kitchen… my new oven is finally in place and my first gourmet side dish cooked in it was ……
(I know the suspense is killing you)….. FROZEN FRENCH FRIES! Man, were they good. Thankfully my sister was in need of a new oven and my old one went to her house. She’s was so excited, as her oven was so old it had “G.E. – A Division of General Motors” on it. It was avocado green. I know she’ll miss it. (yea, right.) So now we’re both happy.

I’ve made really good progress ….

It’s the little things!…

posted on

They say it’s the little things in life that really get to you. Well, the little things in this little kitchen are frustrating me to no end. I haven’t posted anything because NOT MUCH IS HAPPENING! The drawer finishing is going good but I didn’t want to put them all in as too many things keep coming up.

Here’s a few drawers in place.

I’ll be ordering my bar pulls this week. Here’s what they look like …

The plumbers were suppose to come last week and got called out for a major gas leak somewhere and had to reschedule. Then we went ….

POST UPDATE: Part II

The counters are now complete. Island is secure and they cut the hole for the stove. Lots of dust. More to clean. But also more to LOVE!

Post – Part I

Yes, things are happening in the kitchen… but I’ve just been too stressed and too busy to sit down and post anything. It’s time for a few shots of what’s going on.
It’s so tempting to wait until it’s done, but that may be another couple of weeks so I’m excited to share the progress.

Now that the cabinets are done, I have to stain and finish everything. Stain is ….

The Rolling Stones were half right

posted on

Turns out the Rolling Stones were half right… You CAN get what you need but you CAN also get WHAT YOU WANT! The kitchen is progressing and I can’t believe how beautiful everything is going. Not just the cabinets, but the entire experience. I definitely hired the best person for my cabinets and can’t express my gratitude to him for all he’s done. Of course, that big fat check might help. (laughing) But seriously, it’s almost like you can’t put a price on something like that. It means so much and will change my life every single day from here ….

Ready, Set, Cabinets

posted on

My horrible headache started yesterday and I have a feeling it won’t subside until I get through this project. Lets hope I make it. The wonderful “Jerry” showed up yesterday to begin setting the cabinet boxes. Richie took the day off to play his handsome and capable assistant. I think they had a good time taking a break to look at old cars and cool tools at Jerry’s house. Richie learned a lot and when the day came to an end, they accomplished a lot.

My excitement and anxiety just won’t allow me to sit still so I snapped a few ….

Demo and Hot Rods

posted on

The kitchen project is right on schedule and our cabinet maker gave us the green light to demo the kitchen and remove all those horrible cabinets WHOO HOO! So the fun begins and so does life without a kitchen. We went 8 weeks without hot water and laundry when we moved in… so I think we’ll be okay with this. Another project to “get through”. Still, we’re excited.

Richie and his father handled the tear out and I tried to create a “make shift” kitchen in the back of the house. We have a counter and small sink in the back ….

Kitchen and Art

posted on

I’m getting bad about postings and I HATE THAT! I’m just so busy that I can’t find time to sit down and do it… not to mention that I keep forgetting to charge my camera battery. But here’s what we’ve been up to…

Richie had been working with the Art Museum to design and build these very large “boxes” for their fundraising gala (which I mentioned in an earlier post). He finished that up and we saw the finished product last Friday night. Part of the evening featured a gallery of “living art” inside these “boxes”. It was so amazing I ….

Kitchen Decisions

posted on

I’m finally starting to feel good about our kitchen project and I’ve quit chewing my fingers from anxiety! (it’s a horrible stress related habit. It’s disgusting!)
Decisions have to be made and sometimes I get frozen from all the options. This kitchen was a nice change of pace for me, as my options on many things were limited to what would fit in this small space. That certainly narrows down your choices. Here’s what it boils down to. (no pun intended.)

We decided to hire “Jerry” the carpenter to make the cabinets. After having many cabinet makers in and out of the ….

Paint, Art, Rocks, and Websites

posted on

What the hell am I talking about? Good grief, it’s been a crazy week around here. Paint, Art, Rocks, Websites… and one more thing… CABINETS!

I’m about as tired as this little girl….

Isn’t she sweet. I walked past the doorway and saw her in there so tired she almost looks dead. Couldn’t resist taking a picture, because Richie and I are exactly that tired.

It’s been a really crazy week and I haven’t posted anything for a while because there just hasn’t been time. So lets catch up. I spent the week having cabinet makers come to the house to give me ….

Kitchen Plan

posted on

The weekends and time-off-work are usually packed with projects at our house, but the weekdays are just as busy. While Richie is off work and doing his projects, I have assignments too. FIGURE OUT WHAT I WANT IN THE KITCHEN! (this week, or else!) Richie really wants to move on the kitchen renovation and honestly I do too.. it’s just a little scary. Most DIY’ers are DIY’ers because they find satisfaction in doing a job themselves, are limited on funds and must do the work, or they’ve had bad luck hiring contractors to do work for them and in the ….
