I’ve been keeping this a secret for a couple weeks but I’m super thrilled to share it with you because… well… it’s just so nice when someone contacts you and enjoys what you’re doing and finds your blog and the content something worth sharing. I’m so pleased!
It started with an email form MSN’s glow.com. Let me just say that I get a lot of emails through my contact page that quickly get deleted. This particular email seemed “real” and the person writing it seemed legit and very lovely (you know… you just get that feeling) and for some reason I didn’t delete and decided to answer. I’m so glad I did.
Turns out glo.com, a lifestyle blog through MSN.com was putting together a piece about renovation blogs – “The Seven Best Home Renovation Blogs” and asked me to please be part of the feature. The things is I’m always surprised that people actually visit and enjoy what they find. In the beginning it was about documenting (and letting my mom know what we were up to) and then it turned into something I looked forward to doing. Taking the pictures, writing the text, putting together a post that 6 months later I could look back and say “OH MAN, I remember when we did that… that’s when my back went out and a cactus sent me to the doctor”… “Wow, that project turned out pretty good”. HA HA!
Four years into it and we’re still going and I’m still excited and completely exhausted. It continues to be fun and I’m still amazed and humbled by the experience. I’ve met some wonderful people and I’ve shared this experience with so many from around the world. Strangers have cheered us on and said the nicest things in comments and emails. Good grief people are kind!!! And they’re funny and creative, manic and motivated, and dreamers just like me. I’ve had such a blast. So when someone sees it and appreciates the true day to day, week to week, YEAR TO YEAR constant effort a homeowner like me is making and wants to share it…. it made me feel like a million bucks. Our crazy little place… listed with some of MY FAVORITE BLOGS! Thanks glo.com and Rebecca. You have made this lady feel pretty great. I was so motivated today I came home on my lunch hour and sanded sheetrock. (real commitment here, people) HA HA HA!
I hardly feel worthy but I definitely feel honored to be listed with some amazing people who are also renovating their homes. Please check out the article and visit the other blogs. These folks totally blow my socks off. (As long as it’s not my roof…. socks are fine)

More renovation posts to come. We’ve been painting the house, rebuilding our storage room, laying new sod, renovating the office, gardening, thrift shopping (with a few scores), finding solutions for our window issues and more. Thanks for reading and keeping up with our progress. Your kindness over the years means the world to me. Hugs!

daaaaannngggg, you’re blowing up, stacey, HA. fame and fortune next! ;) that’s WAY cool that you got featured in glo – what a nice spread!! of course your photos and house look amazoid as always. and i’m glad you shared the links of the other blogs so i can share in their fun renovations, too. keep up the good work, S&R, it’s paying off! happy to be a cheerleader :)
Thanks Tamara! I really was surprised they asked me. I was even happier to discover some others who were renovating that I hadn’t heard of. No matter what the style house…. to me renovation is all the same. It’s an emotional roller coaster of fun (and lots of screaming). WHOOOOOOOOO! I just appreciate you always being there to give me a high kick, Mrs. Cheerleader. :-)
Congrats!! I love that people are recognizing the hard work and talent that you and Richie put into your place. Being on a list of the best renovation blogs is a huge honor and well deserved. Cheers!
Sweet of you, Danielle. You’ve been there with me through lots of sheetrock…. and I thank you! It’s fun to share. We both enjoy our homes so much and it takes lots of hard work. That purple palace, Tyson’s studio, painted kitchens and hallways don’t just happen on their own. YOU MAKE IT HAPPEN. I love that.
Fantastic!!! You deserve this honor so much. I’m thrilled for you and the other bloggers. So cool…
It was pretty cool, Dana. Thank you for always being so thoughtful, complimentary, and encouraging. Your love of mid-century modern and all that you share with me makes what we’re doing fun. It also gets my creative juices going which will no doubt see us through. :-)
Congratulations! Virtual high five :)
HIGH-FIVE, Jocelyn. Thanks for that. You’re an awesome chick who totally understands my obsession with white paint. ha ha!
EEEKKKK!!!! So excited for you! Congratulations!!
Can’t wait to see what you guys have been up to lately :)
Thanks for always checking on us, Brittney. I know you have your hands full with ten million projects to finish and perfect. You’re definitely an inspiration.
Even though my blog is amateur hour to say the least, I still have a snobby attitude about what other blogs I read (doesn’t make sense, it’s just how I am) and I always look forward to a new post from A Goode House. Hope this feature fuels many more. Congrats & cheers – CT
Hey little Miss SNOBBY! HA HA HA! You crack me up. Amateur my caboose!!!!! Then slap me and call me snobby too because I LOVE following you and your fabulous updates. Nobody rearranges their furniture and brings new life to a room with each tweak like you do. Always the best taste and with a great sense of humor. (and you love the Flaming Lips which makes us bad-ass music buds!) Thanks, CT!
I am so happy for you! Congrats! We took over 3 years doing the reno in our century home and I am so glad we did. I would not change anything because we took our time to decide if that was exactly how we wanted to do things. When we did do our house, digital camera’s were not such a handy thing so we used the old fashioned way of taking pictures. I wish we could have taken more, but I’m still happy. That was 25 years ago and when I was stronger and younger. I still like doing that type of thing because the satisfaction is so rewarding. Again, congrats and keep posting. Yours and ours tastes are SO VERY much alike in every way.
Hi Karen! Thank you so much. I could feel your enthusiasm and it made me so happy. Three years is a long time but since I’m going on four I feel like you’ve done it at warp speed. It’s okay to take your time and get what you want, the way you want it. I’m not sure if digital cameras are a blessing or a curse. I plugged in my camera today and there were over 4,000 images. So many that it wouldn’t connect. I had to dump a lot of them. It’s so darn convenient and now I’m OVER LOADED… literally. I do love having a place to put them, though… so the blog means a lot to me. Thanks so much for taking the time to visit.
My husband and I are at an age (45) and (50) where we have decided that THIS IS IT! This gets harder and harder as we get older so I’m pretty sure we’re here for the long haul and won’t attempt buying another house that needs this kind of love and attention. We’ve been doing this in one house or another since we were in our twenties. There’s lots of Advil at the end of the day… and rubbing of feet. HA HA! Would love to see your home!
Woo-hoo!! You must be going crazy with glee! You and Richie certainly deserve the recognition. One of 7 best home-reno blogs? Heck, I could have told you that!
Our houses are so different, but the pain and joy of renovation is the same. I love my Craftsman, but I drool over your mid-century. Not only are you doing a great job on the house, but you’re entertaining and inspiring a lot of people through your blog. Congratulations!!
D’Arcy, you are the sweetest!! I totally agree with you about renovation. It’s the same, no matter where you are or what style you like. It’s such hard (and rewarding) work and if you have a spouse like we do it makes it better and more fun. I follow blogs of all styles (home wise). Our last home was built in 1924 and even though we made it a modern little bungalow, we were still faced with all the problems an old house brings. We learned everything we needed to from working on that place…. and that gave us the guts to get this one. We just knew we could make it work. So thank you for that and for following along. It’s way more fun with you here!
Oh for the love of all that is good, a girl takes a vacation to New Orleans and is late to comment and say CONGRATS on the very and I mean very well deserved kudos. I can’t think of anyone who deserves this more. That’s the one thing I have always loved about you and your blog since day 1, is how true you stay to yourself. You teach me all the time both with renovations and blogging, how important it is to do your own thing and the rest will fall into place. YAY!!!
Hope you had a rockin’ good time in New Orleans. You were so close… I should have jumped in the car and drove to see you. Yep, nothing like a psycho blogging friend barging in on your family vacation. HA HA!
That is a really sweet thing to say, Alex. Probably the nicest compliment I’ve received. I’m so happy we met. It’s been such a pleasure getting to know you. I’m not sure if I’ve taught anyone anything …. but hopefully
and MAYBE a little CSS magic along the way. (wink!) Love ya!
