The Concert Gods Have Heard our Cries!

posted on

Sometimes it seems that nothing exciting is happening in your life.  Know what I mean?  It’s a series of days and weeks that consist of work, dinner, laundry, grocery shopping, house cleaning, bathing, sleep… and starting all over.   Good God I’m sick of it!   And yes, you guessed it, no TIME for any renovation projects.   (more on that in an upcoming post!)

I was getting so pumped up about the approaching Morrissey concert in December only to get an email that his mother had taken ill and he would be postponing the tour.  Ahhh DAMN!  I can’t say that I was completely surprised, as we’ve bought his tickets before and walked up to the venue only to be greeted by a huge sign that says CANCELED!  This time is was his mother… so I can totally understand and sympathize.  The great news was that he wasn’t canceling but postponing.

Monday we got the news that he WILL be coming… but we’ll have to wait until February.  Okay, I’ve only been waiting since June 23rd!  I guess I can wait a little longer.  I may be a “GirlFriend in a Coma” by the time it gets here.  But it’s serious!

So thank you concert Gods.  You have blessed us!  BUT WAIT… there’s more.  More you say?  Yes, yes indeed.  An email arrives last night from one of our ALL TIME MOST FAVORITE bands from Iceland that they are announcing their North American Tour and we can purchase PRE-SALE tickets with a special password.  WHOO HOO!

So this morning I woke without dread of the upcoming chores and the mundane.. but with excitement, as seeing Sigur Ros perform LIVE is an experience like NO OTHER!  It’s one of those concerts that changes you physically and mentally.  It renews your faith in everything!  (too much drama?)  I’m totally serious here!  It may very well be exactly what Richie and I need to reinvigorate us to get back on this house.  And even if it doesn’t… it will be an evening to remember.

So I logged on with my pre-sale password and made the purchase for the April 9th concert in Houston.
And it seems there’s one more SUPER exciting concert to attend (more later) after that.  So yes, the concert Gods knew exactly what we needed!

If you haven’t heard of Sigur Ros then I invite you to watch a couple of videos and listen to their music.  I’m sure you’ve heard it in movies and films. They have an unmistakeable sound that stays with you forever.  We have loved their music for so long – at least since the late nineties – and have seen them once before.  Again, it was an amazing experience.  When we left the last concert and got in the car to leave everyone was really quiet when one of our friends said “I have no idea what just happened in there… but I hope it happens again”.  We all just burst out laughing because I do believe we were all thinking the same thing.

I get so inspired by their music that I even put together a video back in 2008 (in our last house) and used their music.  It had snowed that December and if you live in the South you know that it NEVER snows in SETexas.  So we all took pictures.  Their music was exactly what I wanted to use.  Watch it below.
I love Richie’s bottle tree in the snow and the Blue/Grey house with white trim was ours.

Snow Day, by Stacey (and Sigur Ros):

Here’s another one of my favorite videos.  It’s a work of art and the music just may give you goosebumps.  Enjoy!

I realize I have been pretty quiet lately… it’s been nice and I’ve had lots to think about.  I definitely have part TWO of my “energy savers” posts to do but then we need to have a talk.  I just need to say a few things… See you soon and enjoy the music.  STACEY IS SO HAPPY!

Does music do that to anyone else or am I the only crazy person?  (lol)

Love Sigur Ros! So atmospheric. This is basically the soundtrack to Rob’s art studio :)

Thanks for the vids – that bottle tree is divine. And snow in TX – way to document it. The children in the SR vid are beautiful. That countryside makes we want to go to iceland (presuming it’s filmed there?)

Can’t believe how long you have had to wait for the Morrissey show. The suspense! The anticipation! But you know he’ll live up to all expectation. :)

Yes. Music. Yes. Happy. I listen to music every minute that I don’t have on food porn (food network). And sometimes I just put my food porn on mute and let the tunes flow anyway…

You know… that just doesn’t surprise me at all, Jocelyn. You and Rob are just awesome! Sometimes that atmospheric stuff is exactly what I need to feel emotional and inspired. It can definitely get those creative juices flowing. It’s not for everyone… but it’s great that you both enjoy it. I can totally see him getting in the zone and creating his art to some of this.

I Love the video with the kids, too. When he starts pounding that drum, drops it and they all start running… it just makes the hair on my arms stand straight UP! So uplifting. Almost like you really could fly.

Obviously I need to get a life.. HA HA! Such a silly thing to get all jazzed up about. Thanks for sharing in my excitement. You know what… you are going to be an incredible mom!!

i have several sigur ros tracks, but have never seen their (and your!) music videos. they are great!

i, too, am a lover of music. just last week i had a transcendent experience when jordan took me to see leonard cohen for my birthday. the dude played for over 3.5 hours. he (now 78) said, “we may never meet again, so tonight i will sing you everything.” oh man! and he did. phenomenal.

sorry for your morrisey delay. absence makes the heart grow fonder??? i dunno, ha.

speaking of icelandic music – are you familiar with glinglo? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJI2DLGSS8E

so good to hear from you, friend! stay happy!! can’t wait to hear what’s next. love ya.

Let me just say that Jordan is a good man.. a very good man! What a wonderful gift for you. We both love Leonard Cohen and I can only imagine how amazing that was. Not to mention butt-numbing. 3.5 hours!
We always stand up at concerts but I’m afraid I’d have to cop a squat for anything over 2. That is pretty incredible that he would go that long. Lucky you and it’s true… that may be the last time. I know you’re glad you got to see it. I just love LIVE music. It floats my boat!!!

OH MORRISSEY… he’s full of drama and I love him that way. I’ll happily wait. But good grief man, I’ve never waited 8 months to see someone. Lots of photos for that one!!!

I have such a love for those Icelandic artists. YES, YES, Bjork is on the TIP TOP of our list to see. We may have to fly somewhere to see her, and we probably will before it’s all said and done. Have all her albums. She’s a kook too. I also love Amiina. They opened up for Sigur Ros last show (also from Iceland). I did another video with them. >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrMF33ymXXw It’s pretty fucking depressing. I was in a definite funk… but the music is sort of sweet and insane all at the same time.

Thanks for indulging me. This girl does love her music. XO

okay. i don’t know amiina, but having listened to your link i’m ready for a rainy day, a cigarette and a strong cup of coffee…or wine. love it.

Sigh. Stacey, I really wish we were having that talk NOW. So I can stop thinking I’m reading your mind. After all, I don’t actually know anything about you (other than you have a really nice sofa and a kick-ass house).

That song in your snow video really is beautiful. (The second video with the children is wonderful.) The music is kind of haunting. I have no idea if I’ve ever heard them before, but it’s amazing… and really sort of wintery music. Is that a weird description? I imagine seeing them live was really beautiful. And soothing.

I so hear you about needing to recharge and get re-motivated. But I tell you this—a concert wouldn’t do it for me. I don’t know what I need to get over this antipathy. But a night on the town would not be it.

    1. Stacey Post author

Double Sigh, Elizabeth. I really want to have that talk YESTERDAY… but my lazy ass just won’t sit down and let the words flow. They will though… the good, bad and the ugly are about to make my fingers fly across that keyboard. You probably ARE reading my mind… like a madame with a crystal ball (or without the ball… or maybe with your disco ball). And that third sentence you wrote, is exactly why I need to just write, write, write.

Thanks for taking the time to check out something I love. SO sweet of you. I agree it’s totally haunting, but in a really good way. I was trying to think of the last movie I heard their music in and I can come up with is that Matt Damon movie “We Bought a Zoo”. Silly movie.. but it’s was a rainy afternoon and I had nothing else to do and I do love Matt Damon. It was a perfect match for certain parts of the film. If you watch the trailer for it, their music plays through most of it. Wintery is totally how I would describe it… so it was perfect for my snow pictures. Good call!

I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling “apathetic” (is that the right word?) Join the club, my friend! We should probably exchange emails. :-) The sparkly promise of some “fun” at a concert is only helping me to make it through. Lets hope it works. If it doesn’t… I’m ready to blow the savings account and hire someone to finish this place. I’m feeling like a renovation loser! But I love you and your posts always make me giggle!!!!!

Thanks Christie! Yes, you are my music buddy.. my go to girl for all good bands and great music. It’s a big part of my life. Thanks for sharing it with me!!! I owe you a picture of my hip little calendar!

Your snow video is wonderful, and the one with the children is magical. I loved it. I had goosebumps almost all the way through it.

Music has always had a spiritual, emotional and inspirational effect on me. There are several songs that still make me cry every time I hear them…and have for 40 years. I also cry any time I hear little kids sing, whether I know any of them or not.

  5. Alex @ northstory

Ok the concert Gods have spoken and you are getting a great night out. Third time’s a charm damnit. I didn’t even know Sigur Ros does concerts? That tells you how often I go to them. I love any form of ambiance music so that is so up my alley. I was a huge Depeche Mode, New Order etc fan when I was younger so all this works so well with me.

Yes please talk! Have a glass of wine, stay up late and blog away. :)

  6. Danielle

I haven’t heard Sigur Ros; definitely excited to check them out and share the video with my music loving husband.

Glad to see your post and I’m curious to hear what’s been percolating in your brain about the future. In the mean time, it sounds like you are being inspired and reguvenated. Cheers!!
