Cha cha cha changes…

posted on

I can’t seem to have a thought in my head without breaking out in song!  Thank you David Bowie.  Changing things in my house is a constant and I’m always doing tiny things that keep my hands and mind busy.  Little things start to get on my nerves and I have to cha cha cha change them!

It could be that I’m trying to distract myself from the bedroom cabinet project.. which is almost finished!  While I was playing lovely assistant to my husband as he fixed the squeaky shower valve in the bathroom it only made me notice something I’ve wanted to “tweak”.  I have things around the house that I pass by dozens of times a day and think “man I’ve got to spiff that up… it’s getting on my nerves…. I’m tired of looking at it”!

Usually they are projects that take under 5 minutes but they make me HAPPY!  So I made a point to fix the boring planter in my bathroom and find a solution to the ugly coffee creamer that sits on my kitchen counter.  I’ve said it before, ugly packaging annoys me.
Of course I do these things randomly and at the speed of light so I forget to take pictures or even talk about them on my blog.

I probably O.D. on coffee everyday…it’s way to much… but I love it.  Unfortunately milk and cream bother my stomach so I use non-dair creamer with every pour.   This only means that the ugly creamer container sits on my counter 24/7.  I HATE IT… and I’m tired of looking at it.

I save all kinds of bottles so I put another one to good use.  I did a similar thing with my olive oil using a wine bottle and now I’ll use an old wine-vinegar bottle.  I just washed the labels off, wrapped some adhesive stripes around it for a “design”, poured the creamer in and topped with a cap/cork.   No more ugly container and it only took a few minutes.

Everyone knows by now I’m a plant freak and have them everywhere!  I keep a small plant on the back of the toilet (cause toilets always look like they “need something” – besides cleaning. HA)  I have this small pot that isn’t concrete but has a similar look which I like because it sort of matches the concrete counter.  But it bored me EVERY DAY.  So I decided to just paint a portion of it.  Wrapped a section with tape and dabbed it on.

I ended up wiping most of it off so it didn’t have those brush marks. I wanted it to
look somewhat sheer.  It’s  a new little plant so it will get much taller and slender.
I’m still contemplating painting that brick!

It’s a silly thing but it makes me happier every time I “use the potty”.

So 8 minutes out of my day will make me happy for days to come…. or at least until I want to cha cha cha change things again!

Since I captured those tomatoes with the picture above I thought I’d throw in (for the last time — I promise) pictures of our tomato garden because those pretty little tomatoes were picked this week.  The garden has definitely cha cha changed in the past few weeks!

Thanks again to everyone who helped me with my bedroom cabinet dilemma.  I’m finished with most of it but still tweaking the wood/paint part.  Hopefully I can share it with you this weekend.  I’m grateful that so many of you took the time to give your opinions!

I love the extra touch of the adhesive around the bottles. Keep on cha-cha-changing it up (or you’ll end up like those people whose house looks like it was stuck in the 70s/80s/90s/whatever was their best decade.) I have a feeling that won’t happen at the Goode House. Cheers – CT.

Thanks for stopping by. Great minds think alike (loved your post!) Just promise me that if i do get “stuck” you’ll slap me good! HA HA! I can’t really imagine not taking an interest in my home.. .it’s just too fun!

I have a labeled soap jar on the top of my toilet, but I’m starting to think this whole plant business is pretty cute! I just hope it can deal with all the condensation – our crappy fan does ZIP!

    :) Happy Wednesday, Stacey!

It might like the condensation! And you know… they say plants filter and clean the air. HA HA HA! No better place for fresh air. I have yet to find a decent exhaust fan… still looking. They either don’t do anything or they’re so loud you have to wear ear plugs! Same to you, Kristina –

So I’ve that song in my head all afternoon, thankyouverymuch! I’m so inspired by your attention to detail. Wish I had your energy and motivation and ability to keep plants alive.
Oh, and my vote is to keep the brick exposed if you’re asking. Love it with that dark frame of your mirror.

I’m sorry, welcome to my world. I can just about relate any conversation to a song and then have it “turned up” in my head all day! It’s so unnerving. HAHA! I try to buy plants that don’t need me. Most of what I have thrives on neglect.
Keep the brick? I’m so torn…it’s hard to clean. But for now it’s staying.
That mirror was too big to remove so my husband literally built the frame around it and we never took it off the wall. I’m so happy how it turned out… thank you so much for noticing it. (I’m proud of all the little things he does)

A friend of mine says “George Harrison or the Beatles, collectively, have written a song for every situation one might encounter”
Oooh, there might be a blog in there somewhere…

HA HA HA! That’s great, and probably true. The really funny thing is we’re constantly finding ideas for the next blog post. Inspiration everywhere! Love it.

love your bottle idea (way better than that creamer crap). and you gave new life to that little planter by just creating a simple line. creative. and i’m looking forward to seeing how your bedroom cabinets turn out!

I just burst out in laughter! (creamer crap!) Well said my dear! It puzzles me that labels and containers have to be so damn ugly. There’s really no reason. Oh the cabinets… (sigh) I hope they’re okay. It is what it is…I’ll share this weekend. Glad you stopped by. I’m still dreaming of margaritas.

Thanks. I’m silly about stuff like that and it’s hardly worth a post… but honestly it does look a little better sitting on that counter. The tomatoes were delicious! I’m sure by July we’ll be SICK of them, but for now it’s heaven.
Hope you’re holding up well… those 9 days go fast… and I’ve had you in my thoughts. Keep smiling!

I really cannot believe you have tomatoes in May. For us up here in the northeast, (without a greenhouse) tomatoes are still months away! How long will your season last?

Isn’t it so nice to finish a few small projects? There’s something deeply satisfying in small details. (And that dotted bottle is super cute.)

My husband can grow them ‘maters!!! Right now we’re only getting the romas, cherries, and grapes out of the garden but the big guys will probably start to ripen in the next 2 weeks. We’ll get them all the way into August. Our house turns red in the summer…. tomatoes sitting in bowls, on counters, in bags, EVERYWHERE!
For me that’s the fun part because I love to share them. :-)
It’s amazing how much food you get out of such a small space.

Maybe it’s just me… but I always feel like the tops of toilets “need something” but it always ends up being something you don’t use and it just collects dust. So I opt for a plant. I’m glad you like it. Thanks for your sweet comment! I’ve had that Gotye song in my head all day!

Haha, I totally will try this in my new place. I’ll take a picture and credit you as the inspiration! :) I know, I feel like he is a modern Peter Gabriel and I literally listened to his album on repeat all day. It also really makes me want to finger paint…haha!

        1. Stacey@aGh Post author

EXACTLY! Peter Gabriel… was my very first thought when I heard him.
HaHa! Yes, lets all finger paint… the world would be a better place. (lol) more fun, at least!
