I’ve had some fun the last couple of days just hanging around the house and adding a little christmas sparkle all around. Being that it’s such a modern home, traditional Christmas decorations don’t ever make sense to me. I find myself wanting something completely different and unexpected. I think that’s why we love this place so much. It seems to beg for you to think outside the box and GET CREATIVE!
There’s no way I could put just any wreath on the front of this house. So I decided to make my own “sunburst” wreath using craft sticks, jute string, washers and metal balls.
A coat of white paint and a white ribbon and it’s done. I think it fits just fine… and it was fun to make. It really pops against the grey stain on the front gate.
The christmas tree was another fun project. We have three 1950’s aluminum trees in various sizes. I have a picture from our old house below…..
but I just didn’t want to dig out all that stuff and unpack all those boxes. It’s such a mess and so time consuming. So I decided to go another route.
After driving by this cool old branch at the end of my street about a hundred times, I knew I needed to have it. It’s kind of creepy and cool and it was the perfect size. I brought it home, Richie painted it white for me and we set it in a bucket of quick crete.
I guess I wanted sort of an organic/natural/simple/ whatever you want to call it, tree. I decided to just decorate with paper and found objects. It was fun but I didn’t do anything really time consuming or fancy. It’s all going to the recycling center anyway so it’s not like I’m going to keep any of it. It is a fun change this year.
I also finished my christmas card project. I really enjoyed putting them all together and I think getting a handmade card from someone is always a little more special. (although I’ve never received one, I know I’d totally LOVE it!). Another fun paper and sewing project. I could really get use to all this time off.
And… a few Christmas ornaments for my chalkboard doors. Doodling one afternoon….
I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Next week it’s back to work on the house. We’re finishing up the tops of the kitchen cabinets and all my solar shades from the living/kitchen area were delivered last week so we’ll be hanging those. The fun never ends.
